Aesthetics: Philosophy of the Arts
Concepts- The Key concepts that I learned while watching was the definition of the ancients version of Aesthetics. Which was defined as "The study of the beauty of art". Another key concept throughout was the evolution of art ranging from the time of Plato to the 80's. They follow the concept of perception in art and how people and ones eye interpret art.
Concepts- Throughout they take a more science approach as they interpret how scientifically art changes through the eras. The eight laws of art. A great example that really made interpretation way the buffer fly example of how you can paint or create many different pieces and someone will always find one that they like. We are Genetically modified to see and like different aspects and kinds of art.
What the brain draws from: Art and neuroscience/ CNN article
Concepts- Our perception can make of break our liking to a piece of art. Different methods of making art like faces, lines and shadows shoe different but our minds still finding a liking to them.

I feel that Ramachandran's view was most important. Because in more of a modern and reliable way he explained in the 8 laws of art. These laws set art on a basis of how to analyze different art forms. By setting "laws" for making and respecting art anyone can understand how a piece fits and what the message is. He explained that he sees art as a universal aesthetic which means that many people see art in different ways hence "universal". Having a set of laws and a universal standard for seeing art we can all make sense of it instead of calling something bad and not liking the piece.

I think that Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art was very interesting. To dig deep in a science aspect and see how the human actually grew to create art in so fascinating. I think the most interesting fact that I learned is that through our evolution we built skills that allowed man-kind to create more and more different creations because of our intelligence increase and society. It was cool to learn how everything came to tie together.

They relate to the readings in an aspect of how aesthetics can be be seen it different ways. we saw in the videos that all philosophers saw and defined aesthetics in different ways.

I was actually very interesting in the video with Changeux and Ramachandran. It was very cool to see that evolution played such a major part in art history, the science aspect really enlightened and built the image of how we see different kinds of art.
